What began as a private Christian secondary school in Port Harcourt serving Nigerian families has grown into an internationally accredited institution with students from multiple nationalities.
The name JEPHTHAH means “God Opens.” That is not just a branding choice. It is the belief that has shaped every admission, every curriculum decision, and every student who has walked through these gates since 6th October, 1995.
Today, Jephthah is a centre for national examinations, including WASSCE, NECO, and JAMB, as well as international programmes, including Cambridge IGCSE, SAT, ACT, and IELTS. Few schools in Port Harcourt can say the same.
The school is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and approved by the Rivers State Ministry of Education to run both Junior and Senior Secondary programmes. That dual recognition, local and international, is not an accident. It reflects thirty years of intentional work and places Jephthah in a distinct category among private secondary schools in Rivers State.

Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School has been one of Port Harcourt’s most trusted private boarding and day schools for nearly three decades. We build young people who are academically sharp, spiritually grounded, and ready for a world that does not wait.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
Our vision is not complicated. We want students to leave Jephthah knowing who they are, what they believe, and where they are going. That clarity is worth more than any certificate.
More than academic output
Our mission is to provide comprehensive Christian education in a supportive environment that builds excellence in learning, self-discipline, and motivation. We develop disciples and global citizens, not just exam candidates.
We believe parents hold the primary responsibility for a child’s education. Our role is to be their strongest partner in that work.
Most secondary schools in Port Harcourt focus on academics. We focus on four dimensions of development, drawn from Luke 2:52: how Jesus grew in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and men. That model shapes everything we do at Jephthah.
Academic thinking and critical reasoning that goes beyond rote learning
Spiritual formation built on biblical truth and Christian values
Physical development, practical skills, and athletic confidence
Social intelligence, emotional maturity, and community responsibility
Jephthah runs both Nigerian and international curricula simultaneously. Students sit national exams and, if they choose, pursue British or American qualifications from the same school. That combination opens university doors that most Port Harcourt Secondary schools simply cannot access.

Results matter. Here is what Jephthah students have done on national and international stages.
Jephthah is led by experienced educators and administrators who have shaped the school’s identity for decades.

Jephthah is located at the City of Christ, Km4, East-West Road, Rumuome-Ozuoba, between Rumuokoro and the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The campus serves both boarding and day students, giving families options regardless of how close they live.
A staff of over 200 works directly with students across Montessori, Primary (Basic 1–6), Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary programmes. The school is co-educational, welcoming both boys and girls in an environment that prioritises safety, discipline, and real learning.
Jephthah’s educational philosophy is grounded in 2 Timothy 3:16–17. We believe the Bible is not just a religious document but the foundation of all truth, including academic truth. That conviction shapes how we teach science, history, literature, and every other subject.
This is not a school that happens to have a chapel. Faith is woven into the classroom, the dormitory, the sports field, and the relationships between students and teachers. Parents who choose Jephthah are choosing a school where character formation is taken as seriously as academic results.
Don’t just take our word for it. Hear from families who’ve entrusted their children to Jephthah and seen the results firsthand.
We chose Jephthah for the Christian environment and stayed because of the results. Our daughter earned admission to three universities: two in Nigeria and one in the UK.
Mr Adekunle
The discipline and structure at Jephthah transformed our son. He arrived unfocused in JSS1 and graduated SS3 with clear goals and the work ethic to achieve them.
Mrs Chidimma
Sending our daughter to boarding school was difficult, but Jephthah’s pastoral care made the transition smooth. The house parents treated her like family.
